The sisters of the Congregation are engaged in the ministries of Family Renewal, Home Science Training, Communication Media, Education, Social Services and Medical Services through hospitals, dispensaries, health centres and psycho-medical centres.
The Sisters of Nazareth tries to spread the message of the Redeeming Love of Jesus the Nazarene to all the families by bringing them to COMMUNION with God the FATHER and COMMUNION with the BRETHREN. Just as Jesus the Nazarene spent Himself totally even unto the sacrifice on the cross to bring the whole mankind to communion, the Sisters of Nazareth strive in their humble circumstances to continue the Redemptive Mission of Jesus the Nazarene concentrating mainly on the families
Family apostolate is carried out through social services and through regular visiting of families. Resolution of the family issues through legal help, financial aid and medical help is extended as per need. Through village stay programmes, people are helped in faith formation, inculcation of values and capacity building to face problems of life. Special effort is taken to conscientize women to react constructively to the social problems like dowry system, divorce, abortion, neglect of the girl child, alcohol abuse and drugs and so on. The sisters look after women in refuge homes, unwed mothers and their children, illegally pregnant women, ammathottil for abandoned babies, unmarried women and widows who want to live a quiet spiritual life away from their homes, girls from poor or broken families desiring to continue schooling and so on. New approaches to the family apostolate like home mission, day care centers for the elderly who are left alone in their homes, rehabilitation centers for the mentally challenged and so on are some other forms of reaching out to the needy.
The Congregation of the Sisters of Nazareth founded on 19th March 1948 at Paduapuram, in the Archdiocese of Ernakulam. At present there are two Provinces in Kerala (St. Joseph's Province & St. Mary's Province) and one in North India (Christ Jyoti Province). God our Father has guided us through ups and downs, failures and success but granted the grace to hold firmly on His Hands keeping us under the shelter of the Holy Family of Nazareth.
